Do you have a heart to serve? Family Retreats absolutely can not be done without the diligent effort on the part of volunteers! We need volunteers to do many different things, but our greatest need is volunteers who are willing to be paired with a camper with a disability. As a buddy you will get to enjoy camp right along with your camper… help them participate in their age appropriate program and all activities; accompany them during free time to the activities of their choice; help them during meal time in whatever capacity they need; get to know and serve their families, and build a relationship that can extend beyond the boundaries of days together at camp. You need not have training in special education or a healthcare field to be an effective volunteer. You do need to be a Christian aged 18 or older and have a heart willing to serve others and a teachable spirit. (We will train you before the campers arrive and accept ‘volunteer in training’ for those ages 14-17). You need to come prepared to be flexible, selfless, respectful, hard-working, fun-loving and reliable. Most importantly, come with a heart willing to be used by God, and all the rest will work itself out! Volunteering at Hope Heals Camp will absolutely change your life.
If you’re still not sure, there is a Joni and Friends TV episode that describes what it was like to serve as a volunteer for one first timer a few years ago. Our camp is patterned after the Joni and Friends Family retreats. Several of our team are in this TV episode & have served as volunteers with JAF since 2004, so you’ll see many similarities!
Rise to the challenge and join us at Hope Heals Camp this summer. We know you’ll be glad you did!
